This Is Where I Let You Go

This is where i let you go.
this is where i say goodbye.
it hurts so much even after its been so long.
the dream of our love is quickly fading
slowly becoming a fairytale gone awry.
i thought i was getting over you
moving on with my life.
and then i saw her,
the new girl in your life.
how can it be, how can you have moved on,
when i am still picking up the pieces.
she is beautiful in all the ways i am not.
she has my place next to you
she feels your touch and sees your smile.
i pray that she cares for you much more than i did.
so i will know i didn't lose you to someone unworthy of your love
i hope that if we meet in the distant future we can smile
and remember the times we shared
and maybe we will both have someone who loves us.
you were the best thing that happened to me
i could never have asked for more except maybe that
you were mine
but there is a reason why are futures are not shared
and why our past is simply past
it seems as though we were not meant to be but a figment of
each others memory.
i fell for a skinny-blue-eyed dream
that dream has run its course
and its time to move on.
i could cry and hurt over missing you
but the inevitable truth is that i cant have you
for myself, so why should i waste away in pain
but then again i want you entirely not just partially
i love you like i have loved no other
but every great story as an ending.
