Depths Of Your Dreams (Villanelle)

by Kait   Sep 23, 2008

In your memories you will find me.
Haunting everything that you do.
Following in the depths of your dreams.

You will see me in the crowd.
But, in an instant, I am gone.
In your memories you will find me.

The clothes lying on your floor.
Similar to the ones we took off together.
Following in the depths of your dreams.

Your thoughts will randomly fall to me.
And my face appears in sight.
In your memories you will find me.

Our promises of forever, of our love.
Repeating over in your head.
Following in the depths of your dreams.

No longer able to grasp the reality.
I will slip away, further and further away.
In your memories you will find me.
Following in the depths of your dreams.

A villanelle is defined: A 19-line poem of fixed form consisting of five tercets and a final quatrain on two rhymes, with the first and third lines of the first tercet repeated alternately as a refrain closing the succeeding stanzas and joined as the final couplet of the quatrain.

Yes, that sounds confusing. But, if you look at the lines in my poem that repeats you will find the scheme :)

Ohh yaaay, I'm so glad that you are trying new forms of poetry that you haven't before. It's always nice to see how well one can write formed poetry, so I was really excited to read this poem!

"In your memories you will find me."
`Wonderful line! I loved how it was one of the lines that had to be repeated for this form. I thought it was the best line of the entire poem. :]

Overall, amazing work. The last stanza blew me away, and left me with a good lasting impression. It really made me love the poem that much more for some reason. The form you used was probably one of the best suitable forms for this poem, I'm very glad you chose it, however . . . A nice explanation would have been nice as to what the rhyme scheme was. Although, if you pay attention as a reader you can easily figure it out.. but anyways, its always nice to inform your readers on that kinda stuff. Anywhooo, you did a fabulous job. I adored this write. Well done. 5/5. Keep it up :]
