Night of All Nights

by Miss Hailey   Sep 24, 2008

Night, the shadow that darkens the green grass
The color that brightens the dark
The light that simmers like glass
The thief of the night that leaves no mark.

Night, the friend of daylight
The caretaker of the silent
The comforter of the blind man’s sight
The messenger that the gods have sent.

Night, the mother of mysteries
The canvas of the scientist
The beginning and end of hopes and miseries
The creator that in the morning cease to exist.

Night, the comer of dreams
The land of stars
The jewel in the stream
The chaser that is so far.

Night, the critter in the prairie
The wind in the forest
The sound of music that sounds so eerie
The guider of the tourist.

Night, the night of all nights
The path that leads to nowhere
The dark corner in the morning light
The giver that gives no share.
