MARTHA BELOVED

by Rodney Kirby   Sep 24, 2008

I LIVED A LIFE BY THE BOOK, STRAIGHT AS I CAN GO,
THIS EMPTY HOLE IN MY HEART IS ALL IVE LEFT TO SHOW.

IF REALITY IS A DREAM PLEASE GOD WAKE ME FROM THIS,
IT TOOK MANY YEARS TO BUILD IT, AND FOREVER I WILL MISS.

MY AMBITIONS I PUT ASIDE, MY BODY I PUSHED TO THE BRINK,
NOW ALL I SEE FROM THE HORIZON IS MY HEART STARTING TO SINK.

IF GOD PLAYS JOKES, THIS WOULD BE OF THE CRULIEST KIND,
PLEASE BRING HER BACK TO ME, MAKE THIS PAIN LEAVE MY MIND.

I MADE ALL THIS FOR MY FAMILY, MY DAUGHTERS, ALL FOR HER,
I USED TO SEE SO CLEAERLY NOW IT ALL IS JUST A BLUR.

I WORKED HARD IN THE FIELDS TO PROVIDE HER WITH A PLAN,
NOT TO TURN AGAINST ME SO EASILY, AND LOVE ANOTHER MAN.

I CAN SIT BACK AND LOOK AT MY LIFE, WITH PAIN AND REGRET,
WISHING I PASSED HER BY, WISHING WE NEVER MET.

I DARE NOT THOUGH, CAUSE THERE IS AN IRONY YOU SEE,
I LOOK AT YOU ALL, AND GOD LEFT THE BEST FOR ME.

THE LOVE I HAVE FOR HER IS SO FIERCE AND INTENSE,
I MAY NEVER COME TO TERMS, IT MAY NEVER MAKE SENSE.

IF I LOOK BACK AT MY LIFE AND CRAM IT ALL INTO ONE DANCE,
I WOULD SAY I GAVE IT MY ALL, AND BEG FOR ONE MORE CHANCE.

I WOULD LIVE IN THE MOMENT AND DANCE AGAIN, AND SOFTLY SAY HER NAME,
EVEN THOUGH I KNOW DEEP WITHIN MY HEART, THE OUTCOME WOULD BE THE SAME.

Now that is love, enjoy the dance while you have it to soon it will disappear and you are left with an emptiness to hard to describe. Wonderful flow and rhyme. Emotion fills each line .Well done
