Deranged and Abandoned

by Nicole Kinder   Jun 6, 2004

I saw her there
Just standing there
Tears of black mascara staining her cheeks
With empty eyes and messed up hair

With a weary posture she walked past
A yellow rose fell from her grasp
He's gone she whispered
My only love, his life just snatched

She looked at me
Her eyes they did search
Searched for solace
While on this Earth

Her hand I took
And I said, I know
But words of comfort
Could not flow

The pain of grief she had to bear
And I a stranger, just a witness there

It seemed like hours
As I held her hand
She laughed and cried
Revealing secrets only lovers hide

She apologized for the time had gone
Dusk was just arriving
Night was shortly to be upon

"You knew my pain and understood my grief
I felt it when our eyes did meet"
I nodded yes and squeezed her hand tight

Thank you for your time
Your words of wisdom like a bell chimed
Alone I am, my glass house shattered
But you a total stranger gave me strength in these hours
You lightened my burden and made me reflect
How lucky I was for such a lover to have meant

As we parted I did look back
The yellow remembrance rose
Lay forgotten on it's back

To this day it lies on my shelf
Full and beautiful it did dry
Giving me lasting comfort
In exchange for a few grief filled hours
Which one lonely day did pass my way
