Daddy Has To Die

by a broken smile with a broken heart is a poets life   Sep 29, 2008

Another bruise on her face
Another bruise in her heart
He came drunk tonight.
Kicking his boots around

He's looking for something to take his anger on.
Another punch on her face
Another hand full of hair
Again her heart is filled with pain,
Not from the beating, but from the fear to stand up to him.

The little girl is down the hall
Hearing her mommy being slammed to the wall
She puts her hands on her ears
Trying to drown the sound
I just want daddy to die.

Another plate flew and hit her back.
Another scar is embedded in her heart.

The neighbors are down the hall hearing his screams and her cries.

Again her beautiful face is covered with bruises.
Again her heart has to endure the pain.
Again he has crushed her dreams of ever leaving him.

The little girl in her room
Waits until her daddy falls asleep
When he does she runs to her mother's side.

Every night the little girl
Cleans her mommy up
And gently kisses each wound and bruise.
Every night the little girl whispers to her mother
Daddy has to die.
