Something in Common

by a broken smile with a broken heart is a poets life   Sep 29, 2008

Sitting on a bathroom stall
You prepare your next fix.
Trying to relieve your pain
By making your body numb and high.
You left your children without looking back.
And now you can't stand
the sight of yourself with out feeling ashamed.
After all those years of abuse with daddy
Now you don't give a damn what happens to you or us.
As you prepare your next fix
I sit here trying to figure out
What I did wrong for you to leave like that.
You sit on a bathroom getting high.
I sit here cutting my thighs.
In a way we have something in common.
We're both trying to relieve our pain even if it's for only a moment.
I guess our ties can never be cut.

Even though not everyone does drugs, we do always attempt to relieve the pain.

which is why i can relate

i love the power and message of this poem
