Can't stop the song

by CrossCut   Sep 29, 2008

The headphones in her ears play as loud as they will go
The music blaring keeps the painful thoughts out
But the music can't prevent her from seeing his face behind closed lids

Minutes fade into hours as the songs play on
The walls taunt her with bare insecurity
And the pain inside is about to blow

She can't stay like this,
Pretending everythings alright
And spending her nights alone with her thoughts

The music is what keeps her all right
The music she listens to every night
The music that plays in her ears each night

But the one song comes on
And everything she tried so hard to ignore
Comes back in such a rush

The one song she can't listen to
The one song that brings it all back
But she lets it play on anyway

She can't bring herself to stop it
And her eyes well up with tears
The memories she tried hiding from have found her once again

Her eyes squeeze shut
As her eyes start to leak
Her hands are shaking but she just can't stop the song
