The found light

by Hillary Starz   Jun 6, 2004

Some days I’d like to run and hide,
To the highest peak of the mountain side,
And in the depths of a cave above
A light was shown with the touch of love
And in that beaming light
I stood
What great things I wished it could
And all along
A hug came forth
It was the light that gave such sweet embrace
As I tickled and touched my face
And in that cave I once would cry
And wished and wished that I would die
As if the heavens heard my cry
They sent that light that held my hopes up to the sky
And with a smile I concern fear
And in the poem you can hear,
What a miracle
The heavens sent,
From what became new
From the lives taken since

This poem is interesting. I thought that the rhythm of the poem was odd, since some of the lines were much shorter than the others. That could have been intentional, however, and it would not have mattered much. I thought this light that was found was interesting. The last two lines gave me some trouble, if only for the fact that I am having trouble figuring them out. Was the light an angel? Is that what the last line is saying? The light appears to be sent by heaven, so I think that is a pretty good guess. Good job on this poem, things are more fun when not everything is explicit.
