Why?

by Deana   Oct 1, 2008

Servant of mine, why do you weep?
Diamonds and Emeralds I lay at your feet
Your shackles are made from purest gold
Tell me why you act so cold

Delectable dishes, for you to prepare
Beautiful garments for me you'll wear
I allow you music , that you might hear
Yet you turn away, when I hold you near

A view from your window, I provide for you
To see the sky, its palest blue
I give you flowers, bundled tight
Still there's longing in your eyes

I know not what you dream about
You have it all and still you pout
I keep you safe within my world
Such an ungrateful, selfish girl !

The flow was amazing on this poem.
The words you picked were perfect, I can't think of a single thing I could criticize about this poem. It was absolutely perfect the way it is. You have a lot of talent.

You've used a unique setting and voice to let us in on the feelings of the person who thinks they have given someone everything they think they'd uld hope for

I am confused by this. The writer seems to be upset because their loved one is not happy with the material things they have provided. A feeble attempt at a show of affection. Yet the reciepent of these things does not say " THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANT OR NEED FROM YOU" I see a lack of communication between all parties here. Sorry if I am analizing the content instead of commenting on the structure, I guess its just the counsellor in me.

Ouch! cold ending tho so true. often the world's riches are not enough, because the more one has, the more one will always desire. nicely written :)

    Deana,

I reread your poem and also Bob's comment and all of a sudden I knew: you are talking about married women! Aww...I didn't realize , but yes..some men treat their women as fancy thing they wear on their arms:(
Now the poem has gotten a really deep meaning for me..
    Thanks for the share!
