Love Is A Losing Game

by Sweet Disposition   Oct 1, 2008

He bowed his head and sighed
And his tears splashed off the floor
She took one last look at him,
As her hand reached for the door.
Glancing at her feet,
He saw her shoes were untied,
Her eyes were red and bloodshot
You could tell that she had cried.
As she closed the door shut,
He let out a large breath
Beginning to realise,
She was all he'd had left.
He moved away regardless,
Urging his toes to traipse on
But they stiffened with each footstep,
Even they knew this was wrong...

She sat there silently sobbing,
Slumped up against the wall
Reminiscing on the good times
Between their rise and fall.
She willed to hear the doorbell ring
Or a vibration from her phone
To hear him desperately begging her,
Screaming he couldn't be alone
After hours of tears and waiting,
Her heart had lost all hope
She knew he wasn't coming back
How was she going to cope?

As he lay awake alone that night,
His body seethed with hate
Why hadn't he gone after her?
Now it was too late...
"She doesn't want you anyway..."
He whispered to his heart,
Not knowing she had loved him
Right from the very start

What killed both most, was realising:
It was their pride they had to blame;
For a few small words is all it would take,
But love is a losing game.
