A Lifetime Ago

I stare at the ceiling
Sleep avoids me like a mouse avoids a cat
I want to close my eyes
But right now I have no use for that

Because whenever I embrace the darkness
The soothing cool of night
I see your face, your eyes and your smile
Which sets my heart alight

I tell myself again and again
That what we had is lost and something of the past
But somehow it doesn't feel like that
I have loved and it doesn't give me any rest

Not a moment of regret
No doubt in my mind that those years were best
An entire life for two
I have loved, though it doesn't give me any rest

If I could go back
I'd do it all over without hesitation
It's better to have loved and lost
Than fear your own hearts creation

I've loved and lost
An entire lifetime ago
And I've learned one thing
To love you never say no

    your opening two stanzas, blew me away.

    This is a great poem, the flow is great and rhyming is good.
    you wrote about something that is experienced a lot, but you wrote it so that it was very unique, which is outstanding.

    Wow, I loved it!!! I really liked the rhyming, it did not seem forced at all....and i really liked the passion that you managed to capture, because that kind of feeling leaves most of us unable to do anything, especially write poems! 5/5

    Awwww.... that was beautiful. i loved the emotion and i like how you stated all the pain and hurt but said that you would do it all over again given the chance because its worth it. nice write and a very nice format. love the ryhming. 6/5 ~KM~
