To Lose Your Mind

by thehangman   Oct 5, 2008

How can one write a poem
About complete confusion
Is thinking that it's possible
Just one big delusion?

I think about things in life
Wondering why I care
Wondering if it even matters
Coming to a conclusion is rare.

I consider why I'm even here
Or if I really am
I can't help wondering why I'm breathing
Or if I should give a damn.

And if I were to die right now
Before I finished writing
Would it, could it make a difference?
Should I even bother crying?

If everyone I know would die
Would it help if I sat sobbing?
Or should I simply shrug it off
Someone in my head is nodding.

I can't decide whats more important
These two entities that cannot bind
Which one would I regret more?
To lose your heart, or to lose your mind?

Yes, what if everyone you ever loved or cared about were to drop dead this instant, why do we even bother to keep breathing, what is the point. Sure, there are people that love us, and say they could not live without us, but if we were really to die, would they follow us into the afterlife? If there even is an afterlife. Just things I'm curios about.
    An excellent piece of work.
    Great flow.

Nice job, one of your better ones!
One thing though, I think it may improve if the last stanza stayed consistent with the rest and included four lines instead of two. Otherwise, it gives a slight feeling of incompleteness.
    But nice job.
