What I Became

by Jennifer RIP Lesthat Hayden   Oct 6, 2008

My rein is falling, as dark as it may be.
The light is shining so bright I can't see.
The evil's departing from my very soul.
I'm slowly arising from my deep hole.

I grasp onto the shadows so dim,
using all my strength to keep them.
They're slipping away with ease
despite my constant clinging pleas.

The screams escape, I try to hold,
but I can't capture sounds so bold.
My eyes I shut, to hold the dark,
still, I can't extinguish this spark.

Leave me here; pale skin, dark eyes.
Don't bring color, don't unfold the lies.
Leave my world, let clouds be gray.
Allow the consumption of dismay.

Don't take over my forsaken land.
It's fine being forgotten and bland.
Don't plant flowers in my fields
and stop tearing down my shields.

The evil fights, but it keeps losing.
I can't take this constant bruising.
You hurt the darkness, you hurt me,
though you do it to make me free.

Slowly my surroundings change
into a beautiful world so strange.
Forever fighting to stay the same...
chasing away what I became.

Well written i liked that it was a dark poem with a glimmer of hope at the end, as long as there's hope there's life, also a nice use of metaphors well done on a most enjoyable poem
