The Realization of Retaliation

by Jessie   Oct 6, 2008

We are gathered here today
to guide these two in matrimonay
The lovely nurse with dark brown eyes
and the soldier in disguise

Does thou take thee to love and hold?
Through dirt and mud, silver and gold?
"I do" "I do" bonded by love
Unknowledged of the fight above

Barely touched their wedding gifts
as they felt their fear uplift
"All men must fly to represent!"
Happiness torn by letter sent.

Tears found by the train station
She found her knees numb and weaken
as she watched her husband turn
Next sight of him was in an urn

Brothers, nephews, sons and dads.
Friends turned into just comrades
Families ripped by lives found lost
memories and badges tossed

Just another man they say
we'll recruit ten more today.
men are just sent two and fro
simply considered more cargo.

War tears deep at delicate souls,
sending men to cold hellholes
For what? To say that we have won?
or have we found we've just begun?
