At The Rubicon

by Independence Forever   Oct 10, 2008

Standing on the river's edge Caesar peered across
his consciousness in it's own battle seemed at toss

to stay meant loyalty to a corrupt senate in Rome
to cross was certain civil war and banning from home

without a looking behind him at what he is leaving
he plunges into the surf thinking what he's achieving

he reaches the other side with his standard and shouts
"here I lay down peace, exalt war, and remove doubts"

with a hand upraised he calls his men forward
"we march for fortune and Rome itself toward"

without a check in their movements the men charge
for future unknown, for their loved ones, to enlarge

nothing in life is certain and nothing is written in stone
to win you must risk loss, from our deeds is future sewn
