Twinkle Little Star(Saving Me From You)

I almost forgot how stars sparkle, seeming to dance.
They fill the sky with light, setting the mood for romance.
But, I'm out here all alone, clinging to my oversized jacket.
Enjoying the gentle fall breeze and the peaceful nighttime racket.

There are crickets singing in the background, a dog barking far away,
Making me forget the troubles that have clouded my heart for days.
I sit on the grass, now dampened from the midnight dew,
Lay my head back and get lost in memories of you.

But, for once I'm not crying, no tears fall from my eyes,
I just can't believe that I let you take the stars from my sky.
Now as I watch as they twinkle above my resting head,
I remember all the wishes I made since your goodbye was said.

"Twinkle, twinkle little star, glistening far up in the clouds.
I can't believe I'm doing this, saying this out loud.
But, I need to make a few wishes, I wish that you would grant.
They're actually really plain and simple, stars, just send him back."

I repeated that wish over and over, every single night.
Wishing that the star would send him back so I'd be alright.
But, it never did, my wishes didn't come true.
Yet, now I understand my little star was saving me from you.
