Gathered

Dearly beloved
We gather here today
To look into the coffin
And see a life taken away

This three person funeral
Was all that he left behind
Three people, Three dead roses
And the sound of footsteps dying

So this is what dying is?
Rising like a tide
The dark black water so cold and deep
It's amazing we're still alive

Dearly beloved
We are here to watch him go
Down past the last river bend
After that I do not know

And look at his closed eyes
Searching for the last thing you said
Try to remember word for word
The argument you had last night
Doesn't matter now, he's dead

You told him you were leaving
And you weren't coming back
I guess its just ironic
Life can be like that

Sow now throw in your flowers
Like they'll make it okay
Dearly beloved
We have gathered here today
