The Little Girl With The Yellow Dress

by malina   Oct 17, 2008

I take out my thin blanket
To cover the pavement, I live on
Eyes cast past me
Yet I'm alive but I'm left with no one

Not one passerby
Lends me a hand
I already know what awaits me tomorrow
I'll beg on my two little feet I stand

My face smudged with mud
My little yellow dress, has worn out
Yet, not one gives me love
Somehow their eyes still wouldn't be able to see me if I were to shout

I live along the shadows
But somehow, it lives better off than me
I wake up every morning to nothing
And I can barely breath

Beneath me lies my thin blanket
And the passerbys, not even giving a glance
With such a long future ahead
With no one's help, I won't stand a chance

TODAY WAS NATIONAL POVERTY DAY...SO I DECIDED TO DEDICATE THIS POEM TO A CLIP I SAW OF A LITTLE GIRL WEARING A YELLOW DRESS....

It's sad that we have this kind of thing going on in our country (and others) when our president is approving $700 million (billion?) to rescue corporations and such instead of taking care of our homeless, poverty stricken, and poor. It's nice to see other people write of such atrocities. Good job.
