The Job of a Poet

by Richard S   Oct 18, 2008

The job of a poet, to enlighten the world,
And show us what it can be.
They take words. They take phrases.
They take popular crazes,
In an effort to set us all free.

A poet is truth, both the good and the bad.
With honesty drawn from a pen
A story is told.
Emotions are sold.
As true now as ever was then.

Modern day Merlins conjure life up from words.
Magic out of confusion.
They seek to turn gold,
Out of words that are told.
Alchemists of the allusion.

This is thoughtful poem. I don't define a poet or a poem as good or bad, it all depends on the feelings one gets from it.
I admire your poetic styles and topic you chooses. Keep it up.
