Silent Steps

by Twisted Heart   Oct 24, 2008

Within the mist of moonlit glow
I chanced to walk alone
Beside the sea, the lovely sea
To places I have known
Inside the pitch of memories
My heart and soul reviewed
The thoughts that shed upon the sand
Lost thoughts to be renewed.

With only hurt to lap the shore
From seas of tears that's cried
Forgotten love that beat the heart
Turned soul bruised up and died
Lost lonely steps upon the sands
Indented for the meek
Who walk along this lonely shore
Some comfort there to seek

But bitter winds upon the break
Of waves that beat the sand
Come now to lend a hope of life
To steady where I stand
The silent steps are stricken now
By laps upon the shore
And faded footsteps lost inside
The sands forevermore.

Congrats for placing in the contest. Your poem is beautiful.

Within the mist of moonlit glow
    I chanced to walk alone
Beside the sea, the lovely sea
    To places I have known
    Inside the pitch of memories
    My heart and soul reviewed
The thoughts that shed upon the sand
    Lost thoughts to be renewed.

How lonely it is to be walking alone living on memories of a lost love.

With only hurt to lap the shore
From seas of tears that's cried
Forgotten love that beat the heart
Turned soul bruised up and died
Lost lonely steps upon the sands
    Indented for the meek
Who walk along this lonely shore
    Some comfort there to seek

Do we really ever find that comfort? I feel the pain is just a part of who we have become.

But bitter winds upon the break
Of waves that beat the sand
Come now to lend a hope of life
    To steady where I stand
The silent steps are stricken now
    By laps upon the shore
    And faded footsteps lost inside
    The sands forevermore.

    Very sad ending.

    Excellent job!
