India Calling

India Calling

Fluttering below the cerulean sky
Echoing love, million sacrifice
Honored emblem of treasured land
Adorns humility, harmony garland

Yawning sunshine lits up east
Shimmering dew, waving tea leaves
Vibrant colors of desert realm
Snow capped mountains overwhelm

Enchanting shlokas reverberate
Offering prayers as Vedas state
Church-bells chime another lullaby
Muezzin recites an Azaan nearby

Bihu, Pongal, dazzling Diwali
Id, Christmas, multihued Holi
Carnatic hymm,graceful tarangam
Ghumar, Oddisi, Mohiniattam

Diverse cultures stand united
Goodwill melodies still narrated
Conquering linguistic obstruction
Bridged by genuine affection

Enlightened era of radical claim
Torch of peace remains aflame.

note:
Ghumar, Oddisi, Mohiniattam - these are some of the folk dances of India.
Bihu, Pongal, Diwali, Id, Christmas, Holi - the various festivals celebrated in India.
