Lungs contracting
he grabs his throat
wheezing and gasping
he starts to choke
unable to see anything
but oncoming darkness
he reaches for the stars
and comes up empty
thrown away
left to stay
with an unwelcome feeling
that leads him to say
"I shouldn't have gotten up today"
