The burden of the reaper

by waiting for the unknown   Oct 28, 2008

Millions of haunted voices
ringing within my ears
all singing the same tortured song
A message i no longer wish to hear.

I carry their pain
every single place i go
two of their tears are never the same
i am filled with a loneliness you will never know

Now you hear the ballad
always upon their frozen lips
and listen as all other thoughts
their sepulchral tune doth eclipse

"To our grave we doth walk.
Through a gate, no living can lock.
we are set on one track.
There is no hope of ever going back.
we chant our rhyme
within perfect time.
hear our mournful cry
shiver as we pass by
filling your body with dread,
you are hearing the song of the dead."

This is what is always
in the back of my mind
Their thrice cursed song and my fate
are forever intertwined

Remember as you go on
with you care-free life
i will forever live
with every dead man's strife

    Millions of haunted voices
    ringing within my ears

*I would change "within" to "throughout" that sounds better to me.*

all singing the same tortured song
A message i no longer wish to hear.

*This was a really strong way to open a poem. I love the metaphor I thought that was clever. Very haunting image here. Also make the "i" in the last line "I"*

two of their tears are never the same

*When you say "two" that confuses me I'd say "None" or something like that*

    Now you hear the ballad
    always upon their frozen lips
and listen as all other thoughts
    their sepulchral tune doth eclipse

*Love the langauge here :) it was flawless and adds mre to the metaphor in the first stanza. I love that. Very creative*

    This is what is always

*I would change this to "This is what plays always" or something like that, becasue the way you had it, made it difficult to read.*

    with you care-free life

*Should "you" be "your"? Anywho I really liked this. The concept was a new one for me and I enjoyed the piece as a whole. The imagery was very strong here and made this come alive. Very nice. Nik*
