Steel Cold (Ballad)

by Scott C   Nov 1, 2008

Shaken by terror, alone by default
It must not have taken much to stifle the yelp
So weak and vulnerable, it's your entire fault
It would have been too much to ask someone for help.

Taken away by the angel of death
Your hands are cold as ice on my flesh.
You stole my innocence and that final breath.
Wrapped up now in wire mesh.

Taken as a child
Died much too old
The final days were far from mild.
No love or compassion your eyes were steel cold.

Tried to break free
Your big hands caught my tiny feet
I asked you nicely to please let me leave
You said you were going to take my soul to keep.

Taken as a child
Died much too old
The final days were far from mild.
No love or compassion, your eyes were steel cold.

There is so much pain.
My life has been destroyed.
I tried to call for help but it was all in vain.
When that last tear fell from my eye you looked annoyed.

Taken as a child
Died much too old
The final days were far from mild.
No love or compassion, your eyes were steel cold.

Help came but it was too late
I just wanted to play on the swings
The police came and shot him in a vehemence of hate
Now I am an angel and have white wings

Taken as a child
Died much too old
The final days were far from mild.
No love or compassion, your eyes were steel cold.

I liked your use of repetition, and your adjective choices were brilliant.
