Ring

by Syrus   Nov 1, 2008

This ring hung on this chain
Slumped around my neck
Encrypted words written
So clearly and yet so vaguely
Once each word had its own significance
Now to see the meanings nearly impossible to find,
It wears around my neck to remind me of a hope
To remind me of better times
And that's all there ever was.
But it wasn't always on this chain
It once had a home to rest
Instead of always hanging,
It was able to rest on a hand,
Around a lovers finger,
So smooth and so elegant
Her softness fit for a king.
There the ring was given meaning,
A love put to the test.
Hardships came and gone
And it found it hard to rest
But morning after morning
Night after night
It always remained around that finger
Never losing sight.
But in time the ring lost its meaning
And was finally laid to sleep.
There it sat and waited
Longing to be held
Looking for a home to stay
A place to call its own.
Until one day I saw it
And took it from its dormant living
Taking back what was rightfully mine
Tarnished, dusted, and barely alive
The words were still there to see
"One day at a time"
