Frozen Inferno

by reJoyce   Nov 2, 2008

I eat away at my dry lips
That know none other than their own
Tired of each other and dehydrated
They sink between my teeth

My heart heats up like a furnace
Burning like a boiling volcano
Liquid fire rising to the surface
But then halted by the cold, dense air

A sudden reverse of extreme behavior
Molten rock erupts inward to the core
Surging deep into the earth
Seething, scorched, ablaze

Constricted inside from its surrounds
The magma cools into solid rock
Compressed into a heavy stone
Smoldering love is trapped within

This mantle, this hardened shell
A black barrier that encases the light
Preventing its rays from breaching
The darkened walls contained.

I have no flare for writting great free verse but I do enjoy reading well written ones like this
