Desert Wind

by Scott E Buttross   Jun 8, 2004

As I walked through the desert I fell in water,
With my loudest voice I called out.
But I figured why bother.
I had this choice
And then I saw her.
She reached out with her heart and I took hold.
We followed the calm warm breeze
Of the deserts father.
Hoping it leads us to a place where
Trees have roots for emotions to graze
And foundations hold strong without lonely days
The warm cool breeze that brought her
Has taught her these ways.

But arid regions have weather with no seasons
And winds quickly change.
She grows cold and I try to warm her
But her emotions fade gray
Eventually the roots that held strong
Start to give way to the wind.
My eyes were still open when this gust
Came along.
It tossed sand in the air that was once solid ground
She closed her eyes and I stood their.
Sand glassed my eyes
I could not close them it was too hard to bear.
I cried blind with muddy tears tearing my mind
And though I had no vision I could see she was not their.
How could such a loving soul
Suddenly not care.
