The Other side of the Stars

by Jaklynn   Nov 11, 2008

Last Night I took a walk
Under a black cloth with a million holes
I sat and stared at the constellations
Like so many ancestors before myself
I imagined old gray-haired men
Sitting in lounge chairs and smoking cigars
Looking at me from the other side
Old men and old women and also you
Even though you do not belong
And as you seemingly stare back at me
I hope you know how much I miss you
Sometimes in silence, late at night
My heart wanders back to longing for you
But on a plane so different from last summer
I long now merely to speak to you
So I talk and receive no response
Except for maybe the lone cricket
That's painfully enough obviously not you
You left this world eighty years premature
Even though we all loved you so much
And in my case you didn't even know
You left us all down here stunned
With the only way to ask what you were thinking
You know, on the fateful night that you died
From here, sitting on the other side of the stars.

Hey u know what the way u expressed the black cloth with a million holes reminds me of this morning when i tried to cover myself with the blanket to go back to sleep only to see the sunlight penetrating thru the small holes...

Well there is lots of metaphors goin on here
as i was tryin to read between the lines...n I must say tt it is a sad story indeed having to lose a person who is very close to you who died at a very young age.

I must say tt i really enjoy reading it

A really beautiful descriptive poem, especially the part about the cloth with holes in it:) I loved the sadness in it, because it was portrayed so delicately:)

    Take care!

I really liked it. Once I got to the old men staring down part it clicked that it had to do with death, and the dead looking down on you as you look up on them. That was cool. :] The metaphor in the first lines was good too. I like that better than just plain out saying stary sky. Five out of five.
