Speak, Memory

Speak, memory

And evoke the images

Of times long past:

The porcelain doll,

With its lacy wedding dress.

The boulders next to the ocean,

Tunnels weaving in and out.

The intense greenery

Of a new home.

The stride of a loyal dog,

Black and mysterious,

Dark, curious eyes.

The song of laughter,

As the sled slides down the hill.

The tapping of a hammer,

The house beginning to rise.

The bubbling stream,

Giggling with the wind.

The metal scaffolding,

Transforming in to a tree, a house, a school.

The splash as a fish jumps,

His scales shining.

The scream of a mother in labor,

A baby girl crying.

The singing of a drunk cousin,

Clumsily copying Paula Cole.

The tears of a parent,

Mourning a lost mother.

The discovery of a new path,

Filled with a new chance.

The death of a best friend,

Buried in the backyard.

The din of a sleepless night,

And watching the sunrise...

Speak, memory of mine.
