A name in the sand

by Ingrid   Nov 20, 2008

A name in the sand

There it was,
a name so fine
written upon the sand
Not yet washed away
by the tide
that floods the beach every day
I engraved it upon the sand
A transitory proof
of the feelings I hold for you
On bended knees
I wrote your name
and whispered it to the wind
Overlooking the vast ocean
while the wind fondled my hair
My face directed
to where I know you to be
Seagulls cried as twilight fell
My pace quickened
To return home
Before I lost the light

Written as a response to a well known poem by a well known writer.
This was my choice for the contest:

"One day I wrote her name upon the strand"

Very romantic with a gothic undertone as of a 19th century novel. Beautiful!
