Cliches - Words Run Amuck (Ottava Rima)

by Sylvia   Nov 24, 2008

Old as dirt, and Happy Birthday to you!
Dumber than a box of rocks, a black box.
Here is a thought to misconstrue, who new.
Did you ever think they were smart, that shocks.
Waiting for dust to settle, once askew,
from all that old dirt and all those dumb rocks.
Dig yourself into a hole; holds old dirt,
dumb rocks, unsettled dust, it is inert.

If the shoe fits, wear it; my foot, it grew!
I suppose that makes you a high stepper.
I'll eat my hat, now may I ask, would you
please, and with thanks, pass the salt and pepper.
Ants in his pants, he said with much ado.
Very scary thought, he's not a leper.
Give the shirt off your back, naked, you twit.
Ants in pants, shoes fit, no hat, you ate it.

Off kilter, my equilibrium gone.
Not playing with a full deck, want to check.
Aces are missing, that is cheating, yawn.
My brain is fried, I'm off kilter, oh heck.
I am cheating at cards, I am withdrawn.
Zip your lip, can't you see you are a wreck.
Advice given, not wanted, I shall heed.
For real, believe me, it's "The End!" indeed.

What a clever way to compile the figures of speech we use in every day life. Nice job!
