Two Steps Toward the Horizon (Jack and Jill)

by Curing the Comon Cliche   Nov 27, 2008

Jack be nimble
Jack be quick
Thinking about the edge
Jumping off the cliff

Wasted thoughts he never thought
He swore he wouldn't think of her again
Just a step with nothing to step on
The pain will go, the end

Jack said to Jill, he loved her
She said, "you're not worth $hit"
She pretended that he was gone and dead
It's Christmas, he'll give her a gift

He left her a note in the snow
Right next to where he checked out
He landed and he was still alive
He screamed till he bled out

Jill drove as fast as her car could
To the hill they watched the sun setting
Tonight there is no sunset
Tonight there is no forgetting

She read the letter and tears well up
She screamed at the top of her lungs
She looked around the snow for answers
She wished she brought a gun

The snow was harder than ever today
You can't see five feet into the night
But not a blind man in the world
Could miss contrast of red on white

Without even thinking
She took two steps towards the horizon
One was all she needed
The second was a nail inside her coffin

So Jack and Jill fell down the hill
Just not at the same time
Jack screamed out his bloody heart
Jill hit the ground and died
