Tell Me What I'm Fighting For

by Daz Mellow   Dec 1, 2008

There's another one gone,
And in a second it'll pass.
We've been in this for so long,
I try to think that it won't last.

Am I lying to myself again?
Do I have to break another promise?
When was the last time I saw happy rain?
I seem to have forgotten...

Tell me what I'm fighting for,
Tell me how many people really care?
I won't know if you're lying,
I just want to feel like they're there.
Remind me why I'm slowly dying inside,
Because if you don't, then there is no reason,
No reason for me to cry.

Is there an obligation?
Do I have to stay and see it end?
Can't I just go back home?
I can't remember the face of friends.

It's getting harder to believe,
We're fighting for something worth fighting for,
They don't look at all grateful to me,
And I don't think I even care at all...

Tell me what I'm fighting for,
Tell me how many people really care?
I won't know if you're lying,
I just want to feel like they're there.
Remind me why I'm slowly dying inside,
Because if you don't, then there is no reason,
There is no reason for me to cry...

****************************************
I wrote this in honor of my late cousin who had passed away last fall. He was a soldier stationed in Iraq. We spoke a few times, but I still love him. And I know there are more men like him that don't even know why they are killing or seeing their friends being killed. Though he did not perish in war, but other reasons, alot of us with family and friends in the war know full well (some more than others) that some soldiers are beginning to question WHY they're where they are. I still have another cousin there, who will remain there for another one and a half year with no trips home, and it's times like these I pray that there is a just God. I don't want to say "Support Our Troops" because different people have different meaning, but gee people, be a bit more grateful you have what you have and you are what you are.
