My Missing War Soldier

by Hawaiian Chick   Dec 6, 2008

My love has gone away from me,
He went to war across the sea.
Though his troubles are all mine,
They ended as he crossed the enemy line.

Many tell me to forget the past,
His missing status cannot last.
I try to, but I cannot find,
His death just isn't right in my mind.

I won't let them prepare memoirs for his grave,
No flag will be set, or medals for the brave.
he's just not dead, he can't be yet,
The sun of his life has not yet set.

I cried as they finally prepared his tomb,
It's been a whole months and yet it's too soon.
I got dressed all in white, showing my defiance,
My real feelings could not be silenced.

I stepped out the door and pulled out too far,
almost running into the mailman's car.
I grabbed the mail, reading my name all alone,
then I opened a letter-

My missing soldier was coming home
