My Paper Town

by BornAgainWriter   Dec 8, 2008

Anxiously walking down this long narrow street,
Feet tapping and stepping on the cracks of paper concret,
A silvery sidewalk leading into my paper town,
At last- finally turning this fake smile upside down.

Sky scrapers made from purple construction paper,
Oh goodie, a wrinkly green music shop- I'll stop later,
I look up to the sky, extremely high to see origami birds,
Focused not realizing my foot slipping off the drawn curbs.

I slip an fall into a graphite puddle of sketched water, Glancing over seeing cardboard kids on a teetertotter,
Makes my heart flutter with paper butterflies painted red,
I'm in this place that I gracefully traced; feeling dead.

A molded yellow sun stapled in the blue space above,
Holding my cold and lonely hands; feeling no love,
Feeling nothing but the pain that I have always felt,
Wanting a cut out paper angel to make me melt.

I feel safe and secure in my own little paper town,
Walking this crumbled up paper road; colored brown,
With written words laid out from my spirit I hold within,
Desperately needing to crawl out of my own fragile skin.

This takes me back to a book I read. I think it was the Wizard of Oz, the book. In there was a tiny town of china people. as in china glass. they would fall, and get chipped. 5/5 on this poem, and thnx for the comment. greatly apprieciated.

I loved the concept. I'm not sure if it came across the way you intended it to or not. I thought it was very confusing. Not the poem itself, just that fact that it was both complicated and simplistic at the same time. It was beautiful, and in a way, very hard to read. Nicely done.

    i know i haven't commented in a while, ryssa...and i'm sorry for that :(

I adore this piece. It makes me think of having an imaginary place to run away to...somewhere that you can be safe and yourself. but the issue is, paper is fragile. it gets wet and dirty and torn...

you're beautiful, sissy. let me see your paper town more often..
