Sole Inspiration

by Michael D Nalley   Dec 15, 2008

From the top of my head
To the bottom of my heart
Let me pour my spirit
Into this worthy art

As philosophers did back when
Poets learned the power of the pen
Since the covenant of the ark
We have strayed to the dark

The right path is narrow
And often the arrow
Has a strange quest
Aimed at the chest

Yet as passion impales
It rarely ever fails
To wound its prey
At the end of the day

Pray we all shall heal
As we write what we feel
Our sole inspiration is love
On the wings of a dove

    ""Pray we all shall heal
As we write what we feel
    Our sole inspiration is love
On the wings of a dove"
    - 'Pray we all shall heal, as we write what we feel' not only goes the way of healing ourselves but others. I love that line because it goes both ways. For the reader and the writer. I love poetry that not only helps a writer better themselves poetic wise AND emotional wise but helps the readers to better themselves poetic and emotionally. Many of your poems do so and I think that you're truly blessed with such a gift.

Not only that, but you use it wisely as well. (:

Well written poem, absolutely loved it.

I've read a good deal of your poems, and as usual, this piece was well worded, with depth. However, I felt this piece lacked conviction and drive. The first two stanzas were great, but after that, the piece sort of seemed to lose itself.

I like the use of similes very much. The rhythm and flow were smooth and seemingly effortless. Pretty poem, 5/5

I really enjoyed this poem... It was very well written...

the beginning is amazing... It drawed me right into reading...

the second stanza is also very good... I really liked the expression "power of the pen" (yet i usually write with a pencil :) )... - the expression is actually also quite "powerful"... ;)

I'd say that the third stanza is when your "methaphorical talent" is at its best... - a bit hard to interpretate as well :)

the last two stanzas have also a wonderful imagery... I love how you write about passion... it is really astonishing...

    "Pray we all shall heal
As we write what we feel"

This was really a very deep thought... :)

"Our sole inspiration is love" - i must say it's true, at least for me ;)

Your ending is quite sweet =)

This is such a beautiful write... the writer's view and the feelings are so wonderfully depicted...

    "The right path is narrow
    And often the arrow
    Has a strange quest
    Aimed at the chest"

^^ I interpreted the arrow as the sharp words or the bitter reality that a writer sometimes describes to the people... loved this stanza..

    "Our sole inspiration is love
On the wings of a dove "
    ^^ beautiful lines... wonderfuly penned

the imagery and the metaphors are wonderful..
    a refreshing read...
    keep writing...
