I remember

by Katrine   Dec 24, 2008

I remember the ache of my skin for yours
and the first time we kissed by the railroad tracks
The lanky grass wind whispered it was right.
We danced in the rain and you were my secret
kept close to my soul
and closer to my heart.
I remember when you saw his lips press to mine
and he clutched my hand.
The look in your eyes was apocalyptic
I thought you may have loved me once, but you couldn't possibly still.
I remember the first summer afternoon
sweating and barely dressed in the fortress of Egyptian cotton
I begged you.
and while we laid shaking like virgins you made the sweetest love to me I'd ever known.
I remember you coming to dinner with my parents
and the secret was out,
though I had little concern for their opinion.
I remember you brought me a sandwich
halfway across town at 2 AM
because I was hungry
and we had a midnight picnic in the grass
I kissed you over and over
with no regrets
my laughter carried through the empty streets
on a warm breeze.
Even my pajamas were grass stained green with envy
at my happiness.
I remember everything
so even if we aren't together
there's a piece of you that lives with me.
and it will stay there to the grave.
