Doctor, I Need A Transplant

by TheRevelation   Jan 5, 2009

Little pink shoes on her feet,
Matching dress to make it complete,
Present in hand, wrapped in a bow,
Telling the doctor a sweet, "Hello,"

"How are you Emily," he would say,
Knowing the answer matched yesterdays,
"Just fine," she would smile so wide,
Her mother beamed with open pride,

Her mother hoped, "Has there been any calls?"
Her eight year old daughter stood very tall,
"I'm afraid not," the doctor turned gray,
Everyone knew there was no other way,

Handing the box to the doctor, Emily said,
"Can you give a heart to someone else instead,
Doctor, I need a transplant, but my time is short,
Thank you all for being here and for the support,"

Tears of guilt and anguished shined the floor,
Other people's lives continued behind the door,
"I'm ready to leave, I'm ready to say goodbye,
Don't worry Mommy, please don't cry,"

"I'll always be here," wiping her mother's cheek,
They left, leaving the box, the doctor took a peek,
Inside there lied a note, the child was letting go,
"Doctor, don't forget, I'll always stop in to say hello."

Wow, that brought a tear to my eye! that was so sad. But it showed immense strength from the young girl.. this was a great poem. The flow and rhyme were very good and i liked how you used speech in your poem. It was really fantastic.. any poem that can make me get teary, has to be well written. This was so good.
