Blocking Out the Sun

by Jennifer RIP Lesthat Hayden   Jan 5, 2009

If only I could paint the sky black
so nothing would be seen again.
Nothing to make me look back,
nothing to lose, and nothing to win.

Take away that giant star,
take it very far from here.
Lock it up inside this jar
or throw away the sphere.

Enough of the light glaring at me.
No more revealing of the day.
I'm tired of looking at the debris
and the truth leading to dismay.

Blacken this sky of vibrant blue
and turn everything to black.
I'm frightened of all I knew
and don't want to turn back.

Burnt fingers are worth it.
I have to take away the sun.
Maybe I'll try an oven mit,
but then where would I run?

Left in the cold, cold dark earth.
No life, no torture to be seen.
If I take the sun, I take earth's birth,
all the colors, all the blue and green.

I'll take the sun and wrap it up,
I'll fling it further into space.
I'll hide it underneath a cup.
I'll never have to see your face.
