Still Alone

Would you caress me with ice cold tips,
fingers my thirst and my quench.
Breathe heat to the silk on my neck,
so wanting and so exposed, to be let down.

Broken skin on rough knuckles
scrape the edge of society and bristles normalcy;
keep me on my toes.
The sun kisses the rim of the earth,
the wine beneath boiling around
your arches and monuments.
Listen to me describe this molecular action
in hues of pink and orange,
of unveiled blue and indigo.

Between windows and walls soars forever,
we only need to escape through this mortar and concrete.
With lead wings I'll take you with me
on a hopeless journey of revival and renewal,
emerald our path and amethyst our playground.
You promised me forever,
it's now time to claim my prize.
Into a deep who knows we'll flee,
with fingers interlocked and the key
left to a man in a hole.

Wings become metal sheen and rubber
on dark asphalt, with blinking lights and cigarette smoke,
jumbled English and crumpled dollars.
Will you survive this city before you can live
to escape across it's bridges?
Cries and cries of bemoaned prisoners shriek,
pulsing in the pit of my stomach with nervousness.

Will I be weak and give in to this hoax
and join the ragged and weary?
Will you leave me for their siren cries
of riches and security?
Safety lies within the great unknown,
where my hand will lead you.
But infinity swells as the lights blur across the taxi cab,
twinkle messages from finality:
I am still alone.
