Exactly What I Needed

by Rachel   Jan 16, 2009

On that fateful day
When he arrived
All those horrible memories
Were certainly revived

All those memories
Ended in the same way
I'd try to run and hide
But he'd make me stay

Today was different though
He showed up where I work
With his usual swagger
And that undeniable smirk

I knew what he wanted
I could see it in his eyes
He'd been having too much fun
And feeling all the highs

I snuck out the back
And took off in my car
I knew I couldn't go home
I knew I had to go far

That's when I panicked
And decided to call you
I know it wasn't smart
But I needed someone I knew

Someone I knew deeply
Who understood the situation
Someone who knew what he did
Who knew he was on probation

I sounded squeaky on the phone
You didn't ask any questions
Just told me to come over
And offered up suggestions

And when I got there
There were no pleas
No groveling of any sort
No begging on your knees

You listened when I needed it
And only gave advice
I forgot how our relationship
Was always warm and nice

It reminded me so much
Of how I use to love you
And that way you'd make me feel
And I know you love me too

I can't be falling for you again
You hurt me bad last time
Nothing compared to him
You committed no crime

But I will have to admit
I felt safe that night
You knew exactly what I needed
And just held me tight

I came to you to calm me down
And it was you who succeeded
And as much as I hate to admit this
You were exactly what I needed
