A Moment in History

by Weeping Wolf   Jan 28, 2009

*I actually didn't write this during Obama's inauguration, it was during the first announcement that he had been elected, but I decided not to post it till now.

A Moment in History
and my eyes tear up
in a way they hadn't in years
A breath of humbled awe
And I wish I was there
beneath those bright lights
Of Victory, of Vindication.

Tens of thousands of hands
Raise up to clasp their faces
In universal emotional disbelief
In a lost breath; they soar
Or smiling, fall to the floor.

He speaks to a million and a century
About this, Eclipse of Glory
And Honor, once again restored
With a humbled bow to his people
We are yours now- And glad, so glad!
A colorful mixture of crowd,
Moving together now, as One!
All music, and love, and smiles.

I had faith and respected you
Long before this victory was gained
And believed in not just your uniqueness
But your words. Words of promise
and the Hope of Extraordinary Change
As a man, and leader of Incredible Things
That you may guide us back into Greatness...

Then a pin-drop silence
As all respectably held breath
All eyes and hearts on you
And as they announced you in...
And moved a nation to tears,
I whispered in awe...
"Something glorious is about to happen"
And it will. It will. It already has.

And a country and I screamed your name
in breathless, exultation and celebration
And my friends shouted and cried with me
And my fair hand took that of a dark one
And raised it up...to show Pure Unity
That color can never separate relentless Hope!
And Faith! And Passion! And Love!
But at least I knew that all along...
As dark lips kissed pink ones
And victorious tongues for a moment
were quiet and content in their glory
And a smile comes, thinking of those lips, those hands.
For what thought impossible not 100 years ago
Occurred in this euphoric moment in History
In the place of our Hearts, and Faith.
We, as a nation, look to you now, Mr. President
(And I say this with the utmost humbled pride)
To lead us on! To that Silver Lining!
No longer hidden in the clouds...
