Song Of Freedom

Song Of Freedom
By Mark Spencer

It all began one morning in September.
A day that cast our nation into hell.
We never will forget,
How they killed without regret.
We watched in horror as those buildings fell.

Fanatics said they killed for god and glory;
With sexual rewards for those who died.
They made this war a stage,
For their religious rage,
To justify their vanity and pride.

It's time the world stopped bickering like children,
Then maybe we could find some common ground.
If we could speak as one,
You and I, and everyone,
Perhaps even Allah would hear the sound.

Don't you think it's time we all stopped fighting?
Put away our guns and start anew?
We all have a dream,
Just like Martin Luther King.
Are we strong enough to make that dream come true?

President Obama can you hear me?
If so will you tell us what you've heard?
You promised us a change,
And I hope this won't sound strange,
But we are going to hold you to your word.

A leader has to listen to his people,
If he wants to serve his nation right.
And when he makes a choice,
Let the people have a voice.
So he'll know when to talk and when to fight.

If you really care about this country,
Don't forget the folks who made it great.
The people of this land,
Built it all with their own hands.
And in the end they will decide its fate.

So remember what this country stands for,
When you present your presidential plan.
For as our president,
It is we you represent.
Where would you be without the common man?

Everything depends upon the people,
A fact our government should not ignore.
If we work as a team,
We just might fulfill this dream,
And maybe then we'll put an end to war.
