Daddy

by Jenna Rose Kat   Feb 3, 2009

As a little girl,
I'd lay awake just wishing,
Wishing you'd scare the monsters away,
Fighting the demons that brought me fear,
But I never saw you,
Then questions stirred that I wanted to say.

Am I the daughter you always hoped for?
Am I the daughter you wanted to see more?
Am I the daughter you were afraid of?
Am I the daughter you always ignored?
Daddy? Daddy?

Now your little girl is growing up fast,
Yet you never even had a picture of her,
All you have is a glimpse of a memory,
Now you can't keep up with my life,
You don't understand all the make-up,
You never interfered, only just let me be.

Am I the daughter you always hoped for?
Am I the daughter you wanted to see more?
Am I the daughter you were afraid of?
Am I the daughter you always ignored?
Daddy? Daddy?

You weren't there when I cried,
You weren't there when I needed you,
You weren't there when I stayed up all night,
Screaming because of you.

Am I the daughter you always hoped for?
Because I didn't know what you expected,
Am I the daughter you wanted to see more?
Four times a year just wasn't enough,
Am I the daughter you were afraid of?
You didn't know how to treat me,
Am I the daughter you always ignored?
You never listened anyway.

Daddy? Daddy?
Daddy?
Daddy, why weren't you there for me?
Daddy?
