Torments Favored Son

by ben thompson   Feb 4, 2009

Secluded in a prison, sentenced by my tortured mind.
Long ago i sought reprisal, now diseased and going blind.

Eternal waves of darkness impinge, crashing on my soul.
Sands of time speed ever faster, decrepit body growing cold.

Thoughts still sharp and clear, as I reign in my private hell.
Once a strapping lad of means, till sins stories came to tell.

This grand saga of sadness, once a great man fallen weak.
People grimace in disgust, with cracked lips I try to speak.

Cast into a sorrowful abyss, on Satan's rotting breeze.
No longer does happiness exist, pleasure a cruel tease.

A murky being now devoid of light, new God a midnight sun.
Damned to a eternity of suffering, torments favored son.

Lovely piece. sad yet able to keep the reader attached. the flow is great and the emotions are passed on to the reader. The understanding might be different, but who am I to resist the powerful emotions put to it. good art.

Yes, this really is a sad piece, but excellently written with a wonderful rhyme scheme and flow.
"cast into a sorrowful abyss, on Satan's rotting breeze...." - my favourite line, amongst many good ones!

"Cast into a sorrowful abyss, on Satan's rotting breeze.
No longer does happiness exist, pleasure a cruel tease."

Loved these lines. Very dark, and sometime so very true. Have felt these feelings myself from time to time. Often asking myself if happiness... true happiness really does exist in this world.

Although this was a dark write, I saw more of the mournful touch of lonliness and pain in the words.

    Good job.
