Milk & Two Sugars

by xToBeWithYoux   Feb 7, 2009

A hug welcomes you
as you arrive once again
at my house of benevolence.
Stay for tea, won't you?

Tell me about life:
How's the dog doing?
I remember the kennel trip,
hands held, eyes twinkling.

Milk and two sugars, still?
Same as you used to take your tea.
The old dinner service,
our wedding present, lives on.

I'm over you, for sure.
One hundred percent.
But that smile on your face
cannot be due to my presence.

And then, the truth.
Do I really want to know this?
One shoulder agrees with me,
the other, she's a pessimist.

I knew this would happen.
My hands, they're shaking.
Your milk and two sugars
crashes to the floor in silence.

Alas, our dinner service
takes its final bow.
I could never dream of
you. In love. Again.

For you, the man I loved,
have never left my heart.
How could our entwined souls
be ripped apart so easily?

But now I must say goodbye.
Wave you off into your new life.
Have fun with your new, blonde,
twenty something wife.

Leave me here with
the milk and two sugars.
I'll clean up the broken china,
right after I've fixed my broken heart.

Excellent poem, first off the flow was flawless as was the wording. And every single word was extremely captivating and held my attention from the start to the finish. I really loved how you made me feel like I was there watching this, and you made the emotions so real. Well-expressed, you clearly stated everything you were thinking and this is heartfelt. 5/5 from me, take care. Keep writing, always and forever...
