Zeeland blues

Zeeland blues

Oh land of my father's father,
bathing in endless sunlight
It's southern folks so gentle
Life laid back without fright

Where smugglers still carry
their goods across the border
and in boats in the dead of night
Living by own rules of law and order

Where big plates with boiled mussels
are washed away with mugs of beer
on the many crowded summer fairs
filled with laughter and good cheer

Oh land of my father's father
Your lush green fields with no end
Fickle sea surrounding the territory
Most beautiful province of our land

I'll come home in some distant future
To that small graveyard of my family
Harboring ancestors in eternal slumber
Underneath that stately waving oak tree

Oh land of my father's father
One day I will return myself to thee

To give you an impression of this place I call home, I have added a link to a Dutch band, called "Blof" performing their ode to Zeeland.

A homely and descriptive poem Ingrid. Made me feel all warm inside!
I loved the imgagery you portrayed in the description of your Fathers land. I could see it myself, your words were that strong with impact.
    Nicely penned as usual.

    Really Really good poem..
I know put it here a few months ago but I read it and I just needed to reply..
I mysef also come from the Netherlands.. I live in Brabant.. My Grandmother used to live in Zeeland, and though she moved to Brabant many, many years ago, I know she always felt connected to Zeeland..
And you have written this connection down in a perfect way!

    (Sorry for my bad grammar..)
