While sitting at a funeral,
A boy placed a letter in her hand.
"I'm not sure what this is." He said.
"But I thought you'd understand."

The young man turned over an envelope,
Then scorned her as he cried;
"You shattered his heart when you left!
And that is why he died!"

Tears streamed down her cheeks,
But not another word was said.
Mascara ran down her face,
As quietly weeping, she read...

"She packed her bags, she left again."
"Then drove off to St. Paul."
"Left me in Arkansas..."
"Hoping someday she might call..."

"I feel solemn and self-reproached."
"The wound won't seem to heal."
"Loneliness cuts so fine,"
"The torment is surreal."

"I'd made my share of choices."
"And there is few that I regret."
"But the day I watched her walk away,"
"Is a day I won't forget."

"Cause whenever I think about,"
"The fool I used to be,"
"I remember all the reasons why,"
"She stopped loving me."

"If I could go back in time,"
"I'd erase the things I've said."
"I would apologize to everyone,"
"And love the girl I mislead."

"I would make her admire me,"
"I'd swing for that home run."
"Soothing her night and day,"
"For, she was the one."

"I'd always looked forward to the day,"
"That I wouldn't live in pain,"
"While slowly counting seconds down..."
"As I lived there in the rain..."

"Your love for me was a memory,"
"That chose not to be found."
"You took your time and took to long,"
"Now I'm six feet in the ground."
