Second Place

by Stephanie   Mar 10, 2009

I call the people who try to win the battle, but fail,
More of a hero,
Than the people who win,
But didn't really give it all they got.

I give sympathy to the people who cry,
Because they believed that they lost their dream,
That they worked all their lives for,
Because I've been there time and time again.

I praise the people who are meek and "socially small",
Because they're the real force behind society.
They speak through their actions,
Their hands,
Their brains,
And not through their mouths.
For they know that speaking is useless,
Because opinions can't change anything,
Only change can.

I respect the people that accept their defeats,
With dignity and pride.
They applaud for the ones who won,
And lost at the same time.
They clap til their hands are sore and red,
Even for the people that didn't deserve to win in the first place.

I relate to the people that go home feeling proud,
About what they got,
Because that's the best they could do.
or
Go home feeling defeated,
Because they felt that that is the best,
They could EVER do.

This is what it feels like to be in second place,
Even though deep down inside,
You wish this weren't the case.

This stirs up a lot of memories for me. some cases, it doesn't matter if you win, if you dont fit in, it doesn't matter. atleast that was the way it was with me.

good job! keep up the good work. i'm sure that many people can relate to what you write
